Madekwe is a child of a mixed-race family from South London in England. The mother of her child is English while her father is Nigerian. Her family was raised in a South London council estate and when she was 14she enrolled in The Brit School. She pursued acting studies at The Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, London. At school, she was a part-time actor in several stage productions, like King Henry V's Princess Katherine or Wuthering Heights.
Madekwe launched her acting career with the film Storm Damage. In the following years, she appeared on Teachers, Doctors Casualty and Drop Dead Gorgeous. Her debut film as a performer came from her role in the Woody Allen 2007 film Cassandra's Dream. She starred with Colin Farrell & Ewan MacGregor. After that her role was Elisha in the single-episode BBC Three drama pilot West 10 LDN as well as appearing in six episodes of Trexx as well as Flipside playing Ollie. In 2008, she was cast as Bambi who was the leading character on ITV2's show Secret Diary of a Call Girl. Madekwe's US debut was in 2009, with The dramatic The Beautiful Life. The show aired just two episodes prior to being removed from The CW. In February of 2011, she was cast in the role of Ashley Davenport in the ABC drama series Revenge. Madekwe's departure from the series was confirmed in May 2013. Following two seasons as a main character, she appeared as a guest in the very first episode of season 3. In 2014 and 2016, she starred as Tituba in the TV series Salem. Madekwe, along with her boyfriend for many years, Iddo Goldenberg, were wedding in June of 2012. Together, they worked in the film Secret Diary of a Call Girl. He also played alongside Madekwe on Salem.

Ashley Leggat is a Gemini-nominated actress, who was born into an extended family. She was the daughter of Roy and Patty Leggat. Ashley Leggat joined Roy and Patty and her other siblings - Brett, Todd and Bram as well as Rob. Ashley's family, which is all sportsmen, played baseball in summers and played hockey in winters.
